Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2021 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at the Swagman Dispatch Platform Style Bike Rack and seeing how it fits on the back of our 2021 Toyota RAV4. Now this is going to be a bike rack capable of fitting on a lot of different types of vehicles, not only our RAV4, but it's rated to be used on motor homes, fifth wheels, travel trailers. So if you maybe did have a second vehicle that was towing a trailer that you also wanted to use this bike rack with, you could. But personally, if you're just putting it on the RAV4, I think there are some better options out there and we'll talk about that a bit later. You can make that decision for yourself. more

Now, the Skaha 2 is going to be a platform-style bike rack, able to accommodate up to two bikes with an individual weight capacity of 60 pounds each. That does mean that our heavier e-bikes are going to be an option for this one. Our two main points of contact are going to be a hook on our front wheel and just a strap on our back wheel. This is gonna be a great option to carry your E-bikes if you need something that's going to be easy to use. Now it does have a lot of touch points, a lot of little straps and things to hold the bike in place, so that can be a little bit unfriendly at first while you're getting used to the bike rack. But I think it does a number of things really well. It holds the bike in place really solidly, that grants it a 70 pound weight capacity per bike. more

Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2023 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hey, everybody, Cooper here at etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Kuat Piston Pro on our 2023 Toyota RAV4. Now, the Piston Pro is going to be a platform-style bike rack, able to accommodate up to two bikes with an individual weight capacity of 67 pounds each. Our two main points of contact are going to be on our front and back tire, this dual wheel mount design that have two ratcheting arms that hold it by the tires. So what all that means together is that we're going to be able to accommodate a wide variety of bikes, whether it's an e-bike, a carbon frame bike, or even our alternative frame bikes. One thing really nice about the Piston Pro is it does come with a tilt away feature, has a lever that sits in the middle of the rack, and as we slowly tilt our rack away from our vehicle, we do have the full hatch access. more

Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2023 Toyota RAV4 HR4000- Video

Hey, everybody, Cooper here from etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Destination 4 on our 2023 Toyota RAV4. Now the Destination series of bike racks is actually going to be my preferred series of bike racks when it comes to entry-level, and the Destination 4 actually does a really good job at holding up to four bikes individually, with a individual weight capacity of 35 pounds each. Because it is a more entry-level bike rack, it does lack some of the advanced features, like a tilt-away, and other things that we'll get into a little bit later. But overall, I am very happy with the rack itself. It's a very easy way just to throw on four bikes and hit the road. more

Saris MHS 2 Bike Rack Review - 2017 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hey everyone, I'm Charles with etrailer and today we'll be taking a look at the Saris MHS modular bike rack for two bikes for two inch hitches on the 2017 Toyota RAV4. So, this is a platform style rack made out of a steel and aluminum construction with a black powder coat finish, making it rust resistant and very durable. So, one of the cool things about this rack system is that it does have a tilt away function. It's right here on the handle. Something to keep in mind as this does carry heavy bikes, that you are gonna have the weight of those two bikes when you are tilting away and lifting back up. So, something I like to do is just keep one hand here or on the closest bike, take a step back, so that I don't get knocked out before my ride. more

RockyMounts AfterParty Swing Away 2 Bike Rack Review - 2017 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hi everybody, Cooper here from etrailer and today we are going to be looking at our RockyMounts AfterParty on our 2017 Toyota RAV4. The AfterParty is a platform style bike rack that's gonna be able to hold up to two bikes and then those bikes are going to be weighted for 60 pounds each. The way that the AfterParty holds the bike is actually in a frameless contact way where it is ratcheting arms on either side of the bike, so that way it is held perfectly within place. One of the big advantages of the AfterParty is it's feature to go ahead and tilt away from the car allowing us a lot more access to our back end compared to some of the other bike racks that don't. So with something like this, I'm a lot more comfortable sitting down, maybe actually having the room and availability to tie my shoes because it is swung back away, you know, before or after loading, hitting the trails. And in order to lift it back up we actually don't have to pull on the handle. more

And it's going to have some unique things like color options, you don't get that with every bike rack around, so if you wanna get this matched to your vehicle and have it look really nice on the back, you can do that. Now, it's going to be a more high end platform-style bike rack, very easy to operate and works with a wide range bikes. This particular one is gonna be a dual wheel mount style, which means we're holding the bike by the tires on both sides using these integrated wheel hoops. Now, for this type of style, it's not gonna make any frame contact, making this a good option for carbon frame bikes, alternative frame bikes, and with a 60 pound weight capacity per bike, good for some of our e-bikes too. Like many other platform racks, you do have the ability to tilt this away with the bikes loaded. more

Curt Premium 4 Bike Rack Review - 2022 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt Premium four bike hanging style bike rack and how it fits on the back of our 2022 Toyota RAV4. This is a hanging style bike rack and it does taper towards the end, which we'll get to in just a little bit, but it might be a good option for you if you're trying to transport up to four bikes, at 180 pounds total, where you need 'em to go. Our bike is held in place by these cradles, two on either side with these rubber straps as well as this rubber strap to prevent it from swaying in the back. So it will make frame contact with your bike which is important to keep in mind cuz if you do have a carbon frame bike it could potentially damage the frame while you're driving. Like I mentioned, you can see that it does taper here towards the end. more

These clamps do rotate and they are padded so they will support the frame a little bit, but we still don't recommend using carbon frame bikes, in the event that you are traveling with them, they have the potential to be damaged while the bike is moving. more

How's it going everyone Ethan at etrailer here today to talk to you about the RockyMounts MonoRail on our 2022 Toyota RAV4. The RockyMounts MonoRail is a two-bike platform style bike rack that holds onto our bikes right here with the wheel hook, and another point of contact right down here with this wheel strap. So because it holds the bike by the wheel rather than the frame, it's gonna be a good bike rack for your carbon fiber bikes or your alternative style bikes because there won't be any frame contact like I mentioned before. And it supports up to 60 pounds per bike, so it should be fine for any of your higher range mountain bikes. Another thing I like about this bike rack is that if you come down here and pull this blue lever, it allows you to tilt the bike rack towards you and in doing so you can actually come around and access the cargo area. And as you can see, plenty of clearance. more

Hollywood Racks Destination 2 Bike Platform Rack Review - 2022 Toyota RAV4- Video

How's it going everyone It's Ethan at etrailer here, today taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Destination on our 2022 Toyota RAV4. How this rack's actually gonna hold onto our bike is by using these padded rotating cradles that also have a zip strip on the end of them, they rotate 360 degrees, and they can support alternative frames, but if you we're to have a carbon frame bike, it's something you probably wanna avoid. Our bike is then held on by two secondary points of contact at the bottom here, these straps, one goes through the front, one goes through the back. The bike rack itself doesn't tilt away, which is something you're gonna wanna keep in mind, but we'll go ahead and show you how the bike comes off. So you're gonna go ahead and release this back strap first, come around to the front side, release this other strap. And this is where it can get a little bit tricky with this one, because you're gonna have to hold the bike while you manipulate this, and for our mountain bike here, it's actually going through the cup holder, so it's something to keep in mind, is that it might not be the perfect fit for all of your bikes, but if you just bear with me, should come out eventually, there we go. more

Yakima FullTilt Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2020 Toyota RAV4- Video

How's it going, everyone Ethan with Etrailer here to show you the Yakima FullTilt Hanging Bike Rack on our 2020 Toyota RAV4. This rack will support five bikes up to 150 pounds total. So about 30 pounds per bike. One thing to consider is that it's probably not gonna be the best fit for alternative style and kids style bikes. And if you have a carbon frame bike, you probably wanna avoid any sort of use of this at all 'cause it's gonna be held solely on the frame here. Okay, so one thing that we're gonna note here is that once you take this anti-sway out of play, and I can't, it's not the easiest thing to get to in the world to be honest but once you get that out, you're gonna notice that the bike does move pretty good back and forth but gravity usually does its thing and holds those in place for the most part. more

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at the Thule Helium Platform XT on our 2020 Toyota RAV4. The Helium's gonna be a platform style bike rack like the name suggests, it's gonna hold the bike in these trays and by our wheels. You've got a dual wheel mount design here holding the bike by each tire. That means zero frame contact, making it good for carbon frame and alternative frame bikes, and it does have a 45 pound weight capacity per bike, so not the best option for e-bikes. I think overall it works fairly okay on the RAV4, although there are some concerning fitment issues that we'll point out as the video goes on, but just know that kind of going into it. more

It's got a 70 pound weight capacity per bike, so it's a little bit heavier, a little bit more than the typical 60 pounds you might see in a lot of other bike racks. So if you've got a heavier e-bike this might be a great way to go, plus it's gonna be really easy to operate, like we'll show you later in the video. It's gonna hold the bike in these trays with three straps at the bottom, but primarily with our frame clamp up top that just tightens down around the frame. more

How's it going everybody It's Ethan at etrailer here today to talk to you about the Swagman Current bike rack on our 2020 Toyota RAV4. The Current is a two bike platform style bike rack that holds onto our bike primarily by the frame hooks here and by a couple different secondary points of contact down at the bottom with our straps it's capable of supporting up to 60 pounds per bike. One of the things I like about this rack is the tilt away feature. Pulling up on this green knob lever in the back, tilt it down and that should give you plenty of clearance to access cargo hold in the back. As you can see, no real issues with that at all. Plenty of space to get in, change shoes, access anything that you might need from the cargo area and get back out. more

The Transfer is a two-bike platform rack, capable of supporting up to 40 pounds per bike, primarily held here by our wheel hooks and one other strap in the back. I like the wheel hooks themselves, as they avoid any sort of frame contact. For example, with our carbon frame bike here, it's just nice to know that there's not gonna be any damages with that, as you're bumping along on the road. And in general, I think it's a pretty solid hold. Another great feature of the Transfer here, if you lift this hook away, you can use your foot actually to access this pedal. more

Now because it uses a frame hook, we do wanna be cautious of carbon frame bikes and probably avoid using those, because frame contact can damage it. And then with alternative frame bikes, you don't have a good solid attachment point up top, so you probably are gonna need a bike adapter bar to make sure that you're getting solid contact with the bike. more

Yakima Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2017 Toyota RAV4- Video

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the Yakima FullTilt on our 2017 Toyota RAV4. The FullTilt is a hang-style bike rack that can hold up to five bikes. It's gonna hold them by the frame here with two zip strips up top to keep it held down along with a third on the seat post to limit our side to side movement, which will help with bike to bike contact. Now, with this, you also have a 150 pound weight capacity, now, it's total, so make sure you're not overloading the bike rack. Now, because it makes frame contact, we do wanna avoid carbon frame bikes and alternative frame bikes or kids' bikes, we probably wanna pick up a bike adapter bar for those alternative frames to make sure the bike hangs level, and for the kids' bikes, it's to make sure that they can fit over this dual arm design, because it's typically not too friendly with those smaller frames. more

So this is your front wheel mount platform style bike rack that's gonna let you carry up to four bikes but a quick thing to note before we talk about the features that make this premium choice is that the hitch has a weight rating and your vehicle has a weight rating so make sure you don't exceed the lower of the two. The closest two trays will let you carry up to 60 pounds per bike. And the further two will let you carry 40 pounds per bike. For our 2017 RAV4, we are going to be able to carry 37 and a half pounds per bike so that we don't exceed that limit. more

This is your platform-style bike rack, that's gonna let you carry up to 50 pounds per bike. The carrier itself is about 92 pounds, so if we max this out, we'd be looking about 300 pounds. Your hitch is gonna have its max capacity, and so is your vehicle. Make sure you do not exceed the lower of those two numbers. So the first impressions of it on the back of the RAV4, I actually think it looks pretty good, especially in this color combination. It matches nice, and it holds the bikes up about where I would want 'em personally. So not up so high where it's gonna completely obstructive the view out of the back window, but up enough to where you can kind of keep an eye on 'em. With that said, this particular rack can hold up to a total of four bikes, but if you need to carry an additional one, there's a five-bike version available. more

All right, so right off the bat, this is a great lightweight and portable bike rack. It's about 24 pounds, which makes it easy to take on and off the hitch. Its weight capacity is about 35 pounds per bike, so your heavier bikes like your e-bikes are not gonna work for this. Let's take a closer look at some of the features.
